My name is Madden. I love dinosaurs and making lots of noise! But I am learning something new. There are special times when my voice needs to be quiet and soft.

In the morning when the sun is just coming up, my home is very quiet. Mom Keisha is still sleeping because she needs rest. My quiet voice helps Mom Keisha sleep longer so she can have energy for the day.

When I use my quiet voice in the morning, I breathe in slowly for 4 counts, then I speak very softly on the exhale. My words come out like a whisper. This is because a quiet voice does not startle people who are sleeping, so they can rest peacefully.

At school, Ms. Rodriguez uses a quiet voice at rest time. When everyone uses quiet voices together, we can all rest without being startled by loud sounds. A quiet classroom helps our brains focus and get ready for learning.

In the evening when the sun goes down, it is time for a quiet voice again. The day is ending and everyone is getting ready to sleep. A quiet voice helps my family relax their bodies so they can fall asleep more easily.

Now I understand. My quiet voice is a special gift I give to the people I love. When I use my quiet voice in the morning and evening, everyone knows I am being thoughtful of their needs and they feel cared for.

Why This Story Works

Madden's Quiet Voice uses Carol Gray's approach of connecting a child's behavior to its positive impact on others—a powerful motivator for children who struggle with impulse control. By anchoring quiet voice practice to specific, relatable times (morning sleep, rest time, bedtime) and explaining the *why* behind each moment, the story helps children with sensory regulation challenges understand that their voice control isn't punishment, but a meaningful gift to people they love.
